Theatre Studio is a space for realization of artistic projects of students and teachers of the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava. This space is characterized in particular by an innovative, experimental and semi-professional approach of the authors involved in the creation of new productions.

Currently, the Theatre Studio has 4 theater stages:

  • Lab Theatre
  • Štúdio Kaplnka
  • Štúdio Burkovňa
  • Štúdio 1


Lab Theatre
represents the largest space of the Theatre Studio. The name is derivered from the word laboratory as it represents a place for students’ experiments. It has a capacity of 138 seats and is located in the building of the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts on Svoradova street 4 in Bratislava. The theatre hall works on the principle of Black Box and is characterized by variability. Its appearance can be compared to the Slovak National Theatre studio.


Štúdio Kaplnka
is a restored stage that students used from 1998 to 2007, and theatre life returned to it again in 2016. This stage is a chamber space with a variable stage. Capacity ranges from 40 to 60 visitors. Študio Kaplnka is located together with Študio Burkovňa in the rectorate of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava in the historic building Academia Istropolitana on Venturska street 3.


Štúdio Burkovňa
is the most humble space of the Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts and provides an unmistakable atmosphere. After reconstruction, it was reopened to the public in 2015. Burkovňa is located in the cellars of the former Academia Istropolitana on Venturska Street 3. Burkovňa has a capacity of 30 to 50 visitors with its variable layout and auditorium.


Študio 1
is a theatre space in the Old Radio building of today’s Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Zochova Street 1. Students of the Department of Puppetry are present in its premises. Študio 1 is a Black Box and has a capacity of 25 to 40 seats.
